Hello Sky Footwear Family, my name is Jordan Parrott and currently a junior at IU-Southeast studying business. I had the awesome opportunity to hand out 665 pairs of socks last month to the Louisville Rescue Mission. After attending middle school and high school with Keaton, I approached him about how I could get involved with Sky Footwear while attending school in the Louisville area.
Last Friday (4/28), a couple of friends and I got the opportunity to visit the Louisville Rescue Mission. We arrived early in the morning where we met with the staff and as we waited for people to arrive we noticed something different about their services immediately. At their facility, they offer storage spaces where they are able to keep their belongings in a suitcase in a controlled and safe environment. One by one they would come in and check out their stuff as they would get ready for the morning.
As lunchtime approached, more people arrived and we got the chance to hand out a few of the 665 pairs of socks that we donated thanks to those of you who purchased a pair in the month of March. The best part of the day was just seeing the smile on people’s faces and it was amazing to see how upbeat some people’s personalities were that early in the morning. My friends and I were very grateful to spend the day with them.
After lunch we were given a tour of the facility and were told more about the Louisville Rescue Mission. The organization began in 1881 and has devoted their time to helping the people of Louisville. They offer many services including food, shelter, storage for belongings, bible studies, an address for them to receive mail, and services that help people find a career. All of this is ran by very passionate and caring staff who welcome everyone with open arms. None of this would’ve been possible without Sky Footwear and it’s days like these that I will never forget.
