Fellowship Missions Catalyst Event

Fellowship Missions Catalyst Event

If January is any indicator of how our new Sky Footwear Catalyst event is going to operate, then I can't wait to see how things unfold in the months to come!

This past Monday, February 11, Sky Footwear traveled to the Fellowship Missions [Warsaw, IN], our support shelter for the month of January. Executive Director and Founder, Eric Lane, and his staff are carrying out a good work in the Warsaw community. We're grateful for their hard work and commitment to serving the homeless in Kosciusko County!

Upon arrival, we were taken into the kitchen to prepare for the lunch hour. Ann, Charlie, and Bill were a great help to us, as we learned the ropes of what needed to be done behind the scenes in the kitchen. Keaton placed the silverware on the trays, I scooped the rice and veggie medley, and Charlie made sure residents had a donut for dessert.

Once we finished serving, we took our own trays, and joined the residents at the lunch tables. It's here, over a meal, where life happens: a conversation, a smile from the face of the residents, a glimmer of hope, joy over something good that's happened in their lives...like you and me, these men and women are on a journey. And in the kitchen, at the lunch table, with residents young and old, life happens…

The opportunity to intersect with the homeless community – this is a highlight of our month at Sky Footwear! We're grateful for each of you who purchase socks on a monthly basis. Your generosity is key to making this work. What we were able to witness this past Monday is the direct result of your willingness to partner with us in providing hope to the homeless.

It's always exciting to announce the number of socks to the staff and residents. For the month of January, Sky Footwear delivered 870 pairs of socks to the Fellowship Missions! While we came just shy of our goal of 1,000 pairs for the month, we were able to nearly quadruple what we did in January 2018; a year ago January, we donated 227 pairs of socks. It's encouraging to see such a January increase in 2019!

We've designated our monthly shelter handout in 2019 as a Catalyst event. A catalyst is someone or something that causes or brings about change. Sky Footwear desires to serve as a catalyst for rescue missions in Indiana, and around the country. Through common, ordinary socks we can help bring change to the homeless, to the rescue missions we support, and to the community at large.

A Catalyst event is intended to build a bridge into the community, helping business leaders and churches connect with the support shelter in their own community. It's intended to develop relationships with the rescue mission staff, and draw attention to the real needs of the homeless. Instead of simply delivering socks to the shelters on a month-to-month basis [which is good and helpful!], it's our vision to involve the local community – to assist the support shelter with relationships that will continue long after Sky Footwear leaves at the end of the month.

Fellowship Missions is doing a great work. With the 870 pairs of socks delivered this past week, Sky Footwear begins a journey of its own this year – to serve as a catalyst, to be useful vessels for the Lord's purposes, stewarding the resources provided to help others hold onto hope.

Thanks for making January 2019 a memorable one!

February Preview:

For those of you in the Akron, Ohio, area...we are supporting the Haven of Rest Ministries for the month of February. For every pair of socks purchased in February, we will give one pair to our support shelter in Akron. Thanks in advance for helping us provide hope to the homeless.
