Reflections on 2020

WHAT. A. YEAR.

No one could have known what this year had in store.

Back in March, we released a blog about the Coronavirus in China and how it had started to affect our day-to-day since we do so much business with them. What started as Chinese New Year quickly turned into a much longer "shut down" for China that nobody could have predicted.

The craziest part about that, though, is that until people started talking about the outbreaks in the U.S., COVID-19 felt like something that would just be a distant thing. Well, until it wasn't!

I'm sure we don't need to go into too much detail about the time that we were in "shut down" mode, because our thoughts were probably the same as everyone else's. Not knowing if we'd even make it through this. Trying to figure out how to pivot as best as we can. Simply just wanting to survive it.

And then... something crazy happened. Our "pivot" ended up working. Not only that, but it started opening some doors and avenues of business that we hadn't yet discovered. So much so, that in May 2020 we decided to hire a third full time team member to help us focus on our new endeavors. And then again in October 2020, another full time team member joined us. Our team grew 100% during the year of 2020, amidst a global pandemic, and a ton of uncertainty. Now that's pretty cool.

OUR PIVOT

We have been rolling with our private label business, first in the running sock industry, and now within the outdoor / casual space. It's a really great aspect of our business because it has allowed us to continue to donate socks to our partners consistently, especially when it's a slow time of the year for our online store.

SHIPPING WOES

The 2020 Holiday Season will forever be marked in our minds by the shipping problems that the country experienced. Packages that we shipped out on November 30th were taking 3+ weeks to arrive to our customers, and many of the packages didn't even end up making it in time for Christmas. As frustrating as it was, all we could do was chuckle. What an end to the year, 2020. What a year.

I'm Keeton - proud Portland (Maine) native living in Indianapolis with my husband and dog. Writing has always been a hobby of mine, so getting to write this blog is one of the highlights of my job. You can almost always find me with a coffee in hand, preferably iced if I had it my way. I'm passionate about fashion & believe that putting on the perfect pair of jeans is an instant mood booster. Some of my favorite things to do are going thrifting, reading murder mystery books, and spending quality time with people I love.
