Wheeler Mission Handout

Wheeler Mission Handout

NOVEMBER 2019

This month we were partnered with Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis and WOW! It. Was. Awesome. As many of you might know, our goal for each partnership is to supply that homeless shelter with enough items to last them for a whole year and approaching the month with Wheeler, our goal was no different.

Well...except that the number that they gave us was was exponentially higher than we've ever done. 40,000 socks. 2,500 beanies, 1,500 scarves. Numbers that seemed almost impossible to us. But we took a leap of faith and decided to go for it!

It was quite a journey and though we didn't end up hitting their numbers, we had record amount of donation items - truly way more than we expected - so we can't be anything but pleased!

Our final numbers for the month were: 19,215 socks, 1,127 beanies, and 520 scarves. All we can say is wow.

MEN'S RESIDENTIAL CENTER

We started our day out at the Men's Residential Center, where we were joined by two Indianapolis Colts players (Clayton Geathers and Rolan Milligan) and the IU Men's Basketball strength and conditioning coach (Clif Marshall). All who were in attendance got to hear awesome stories of faith and perseverance during our Q&A session with these three men, and I think everyone felt encouraged by it. They also helped us pass out socks, hats, and scarves to the men who were there. Scroll to see some pictures and a news feature that Fox59 did about it!

SHELTER FOR MEN

Later in the afternoon, we headed over to Wheeler's Shelter For Men where we led them in their chapel service handed out socks, hats, and scarves to over 250 men. It was awesome getting to connect with each of them, even if it was just for a moment.

SHELTER FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN

To finish the day, we headed over to the Shelter for Women & Children for dinner, where again we got to sing some songs, share a brief word of encouragement, and hand out the socks. We decided to get some special Christmas socks for the ladies and children, and it was fun to see what everyone chose.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This month was more than we ever could have imagined it to be. We had so many people within the city of Indianapolis (and beyond) who helped us with reaching the amount that we did. SPECIAL THANKS TO:
-First Merchant Bank
-Bryan Davenport
-Conga
-KWK Management
-Gimbal Financial
-Impact Networking
-Ronald Blue Trust
-Taylor University
-Northview Church & Capstone Cafe
-Stouts Footwear
-Rocklane Christian Church
-Newman & Co
-Zylo
-Yelp Indy
-Christian Legal Society (IU Law School)

We could not have done this without all of your help!

WORLD HOMELESS DAY

October 10th was World Homeless Day. It is a day meant to draw attention to the homeless people's needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness.
